Participation of Howard University’s CEE Department and REPS Center at the 4th Annual District of Columbia Quality Initiative (DCQI) Conference
Howard University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department and the REPS Tier 1 University Transportation Center participated in the 4th Annual DC Quality Initiative (DCQI) Conference on October 1, 2025, in Washington, D.C. Faculty and students presented five research posters focused on transportation safety and infrastructure resilience, including wearable tech and smart infrastructure to reduce pedestrian distraction, a multi-method study of distraction at D.C. signalized crossings, a machine-learning analysis of impaired-driving prevention factors, and computer-vision tools for infrastructure health monitoring. They also engaged with attendees to discuss innovation, data analytics, and public safety outreach.

The National Safety Summit brought together all safety-themed US DOT University Transportation Centers (UTCs) for a collaborative event focused on real-world problems, opportunities, and innovations in today's transportation landscape. REPS Center researchers and representatives participated in discussions on advancing transportation safety through research, education, and technology transfer.
